A Time to Reflect

disaster business plan answering serviceAs we move toward the end of 2017, it’s a great time to reflect on the experiences that shaped our communities this year. As a communications center, many times we’re involved with major events such as what transpired the week of Oct 9. Little did we know that our Bay Area call center would be helping thousands of residents and clients in the North Bay communities in so many different ways.

The fires that swept through the city of Santa Rosa and surrounding areas caught everyone off guard. Direct Line stepped up to the challenge and made sure we were staffed to help our many clients who rely on us. For some, using us as their message and order center allowed for their staff to evacuate. For others, phone communications were down for days and in many cases over a week. Not having phone communication would have been devastating to their businesses and we’re very humbled and honored to have been the communication conduit to those in need.

american red cross, answering serviceAs a proud partner with the American Red Cross, we received numerous calls from individuals regarding the safety of their loved ones, directed those affected to the nearest evacuation shelter and dispatched out to many Red Cross volunteers to the areas that needed help.

Some of the things you don’t hear about on the news or think about are those situations where individuals called in to cancel their trash service from the waste management company we answer for because they no longer have a house to pickup from.

On the other hand, we had calls of hope. A major tech firm in the North Bay contacted us to setup a call-in line to gather information on their employees that were affected by the fires. The company set up a fund to assist employees who had suffered loses with goodwill compensation. Within a few hours we setup a call-in line so those that needed immediate cash assistance, could obtain funds quickly. We heard of so many appreciative employees during such a devastating event.
